T1D is an autoimmune and chronic disease, and people with T1D have to inject synthetic insulin to live and be healthy. While T1D is not caused by insulin resistance, people with T1D can experience levels of insulin resistance in which their cells dont respond well to the insulin they inject.
Gestational diabetes is a temporary form of diabetes that can happen during pregnancy. Its caused by insulin resistance thats due to the hormones the placenta makes. Gestational diabetes goes away once you deliver your baby. Approximately 3% to 8% of all people who are pregnant people in the United States are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

A Study Of Extreme Diets
The more recent study, pre-published in May of 2020 , took a slightly different approach and provides new insights worth exploring.50
Again, the researchers compared low carb versus high carb. But this time they examined even more extreme versions of the diets.
- An animal-based, low-carb diet 74.6% fat, 9.9% carbs, 15.5% protein
- A plant-based low-fat diet 75.5% carbs, 10.5% fat, 14% protein
Both dietsemphasized minimally-processed foods.
And, as the researchers note in the paper, the diets were more akin to the exemplary type of diets that health experts often recommend.
Important note: This wasnt a weight-loss study.
Instead, the scientists randomly assigned 20 overfat participants to one diet for two weeks and then had them switch to the other for two weeks.
For each diet, participants were given three meals plus snacks per day, carefully prepared to provide twice the number of calories each individual required. The dieters were then told to eat as much or as little as they desired.
Professor Roy Taylors Work At Newcastle University
Professor Roy Taylor is a professor of medicine and metabolism at the University of Newcastle. He and his research group have focused on understanding if, and how, you can reverse type 2 diabetes.
On the research groups university website, they have stated that type 2 diabetes can be reversed with major weight loss:
It has been possible to work out the basic mechanisms which lead to type 2 diabetes. Too much body fat within the liver and pancreas prevents normal insulin action and prevents normal insulin secretion. Both defects are reversible by substantial weight loss.

Diazoxide promoted enhanced weight loss in obese adults when combined with an 8-week energy-restricted diet .
