The body needs glucose for energy, and glucose comes from the food a person eats. However, the body does not use all of this energy at once. Insulin makes it possible to store and release glucose as necessary.
Following a meal, blood sugar levels rise and usually peak about an hour after eating.
How high blood sugar rises and the precise timing of the peak depends on a persons diet.
Food-related factors that can trigger significant rises include:
- eating large meals
- consuming sugary foods and drinks
- eating foods with simple carbohydrates, or carbs, such as bread and sweet snacks
As blood sugar rises, the pancreas releases insulin. Insulin lowers blood sugar, breaking it down so the body can use it for energy or store it for later.
However, people who have diabetes have difficulties with insulin in one of two ways:

How Can I Get My Fasting Blood Sugar Down
I try IF, low carbs and my average fbs is 150.My a1c is 7.6I am frustrated, my doctor just wants to give more medication. I am moving toward looking at a holistic doctor.I am at my witts end!!! I do over 10,000 steps per day, I haven’t loss weight.Help
I also have higher fbs, I was diagnosed Aug 2019 with an A1C of 11.9 from June 2019 . By Sept 2019 I was down to 8.9, last year in March 2020 I was 6.5 A1C and sugar levels have come down since, I wear a Libre and according to it, my A1C is around 5.5. I am off all diabetic medications since May 28th 2020, I was only on them for 9 months till my sugar levels improved with dietary changes, I was getting severe hypos so was taken off of them.
I have not found anything to make my fbs lower. But what I have figured out is if I fast too long my sugar levels go up. In my case fasting is not an option, and many diabetics like I believed fasting in the morning by skipping breakfast would help, but it did not.
There are a few reason our fbs are high and this has to do with how our human bodies are programmed even in non diabetics. It has to do with when we wake up, or just before we are waking up, our body produces hormones such as Cortisol, and many others, but our pancreas as diabetics may not produce enough insulin to counteract this normal everyday effect of our bodies preparing us for the day ahead
