Start Your Meal With An Egg Drop Soup
When people want a Chinese soup as a nice appetizer before their main entrees, they often go for a w0nton soup or hot and sour soup. Sadly, although these are flavorful and classic dishes, they are not the optimal choice for diabetics due to their incorporation of cornflour or cornstarch, which is high in calories and carbohydrates. Cornstarch is also easily digestible, leading to spikes in a diabetics blood sugar levels.
Fortunately, you can enjoy a nice egg drop soup instead. Soups with clear broths are typically a step in the right direction for diabetics. Egg drop soup is great because it is a relatively low-carb soup compared to wonton soup and typically uses half the amount of cornstarch found in hot and sour soup.
If you are really nervous about incorporating cornstarch or cornflour, you can make both egg drop soup and hot and sour soup without this ingredient, which would render them both sufficient appetizers for diabetics.
Without the ¼ cup of corn starch, hot and sour soup is actually a decent appetizer here because you can add beneficial vegetables, such as mushrooms, that egg drop soup doesnt typically include.

Chinese Food On A Diabetic
When you think of Chinese food, you think rice. But China is such a huge place, and rice cant be grown everywhere. In the north, millet is used to make cereal. About 1500 b.c., wheat was introduced from West Asia. Vegetables such as soybeans and cucumbers were added to the rice, and occasionally a little bit of chicken or beef was added. Ginger became a favorite flavoring because it was so readily available. The Thais gave chicken to China, and pork was already there, while Westerners brought sheep and cattle. The Chinese, mostly peasants, had little fuel and little cooking oil. Consequently, they learned to cut their food into very small pieces so it would cook rapidly, using little oil for their stir-frying. Around 1000 a.d., because Buddhists, who made up a large part of the population, wouldnt eat meat, tofu or bean curd was introduced. The Chinese also learned to make long noodles from wheat and rice. Chinese cuisine is generally healthful. It includes lots of vegetables, fruits, and seafood, while keeping sugar and desserts to a minimum. People with diabetes need to avoid eating too much rice. Chinese restaurants offer wonderful vegetable dishes, many with tofu as a protein source. You can go into any Chinese restaurant and find numerous dishes that have only vegetables with tofu. When you cook Chinese food, use as little sugar and fat as possible, and steer clear of making deep-fried dishes.Continue reading > >
Brown Rice With A Scrambled Egg
Scritchfield has a simple, healthier swap for fried rice: Order brown rice and ask for a scrambled egg on the side. “Most takeouts have eggs for the fried rice, and they are willing to do this for you,” she explains. “Brown rice has a lower glycemic index as compared to white rice, which helps reduce insulin spikes.”

Dont Candy Your Kung Pao Chicken
One of the biggest issues with Chinese foods for diabetics is that many popular Americanized dishes are coated in sugary sauces that arent safe for a diabetic to eat. However, this doesnt mean you have to miss out on these dishes entirely just be conscious of your sugar levels.
Some dishes, such as Orange Chicken, have so much sugar your teeth are practically coated with it, and the dish ultimately tastes like candy. Kung Pao Chicken is filled with many good components for diabetics, mainly chicken, peanuts, and bell peppers. If you make it right, it can have minimal levels of sugar but retain maximum flavor.
Weve discussed the benefits of chicken in our previous listing, but this star protein isnt the only benefit of eating kung pao chicken. Peanuts are a staple ingredient of this dish and great for diabetics because they are a very low-GI scoring food with a GI score of just 14 and a GL of 1.
Another common and valuable ingredient is bell peppers. In raw form, these peppers contain about six carbs per cup. However, according to the American Diabetes Association, bell peppers are considered a nonstarchy vegetable, and so, the majority of their carbohydrates are found in the form of fiber.
This is advantageous because fiber can help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Ask For Steamed Ginger Soy Fish Instead Of Fried
Ginger soy is a classic Chinese dish, but it is typically pan-fried, which increases saturated fats that are more dangerous to diabetics. Instead of frying your fish, steam it instead. You will still infuse all of the amazing flavors of this recipe and eradicate that fishy smell, but it will be much healthier in the long run.
Also, this dish is typically made with some white fish. Cod is a fantastic white fish that is high in Omega 3s, which has significant health benefits.
The healthful fats in fish can be particularly beneficial to diabetics. According to the ADA, a diet that is high in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats can improve blood sugar control and blood lipids in diabetic individuals.
Another positive of this dish is that the sauce for the fish only requires about two tablespoons of soy sauce, which isnt as much as other Chinese dishes that have significantly high levels of sodium, often due to their affinity for incorporating high amounts of soy sauce.
For an added bonus, top your steamed ginger soy fish with a handful of scallions. These have extremely high antioxidant potential, and their sulfur levels have been proven to help prevent diabetes.
If Youre Going Out For: Indian
From oily fried samosas to rice-based entrees, Indian food can seem like a major minefield. Your strategy: Load up on lean protein. Lentil soup , dal , and chana masala are all winners. If youre craving something meatier, choose the tandoori chicken. Its marinated in a light, spicy yogurt sauce and then grilled. What could be healthier than that?

Savor Your Steamed Dumplings
Dumplings are another Chinese food favorite. Im sure many diabetics are wondering how risky it is for them to indulge in a bowl of these beautifully crafted purses of flavor. The answer is, it depends on how they are prepared and how many you have.
Moderation is extremely important with any food, but since diabetics have to be extra conscious of what theyre eating, it makes the process of eating the right foods that much harder. The good news is, you dont have to give up this Chinese classic. Dumplings are typically filled with a lean protein and various vegetables such as bok choy, scallions, and mushrooms.
In terms of protein, the classic choice is pork. Although pork isnt necessarily the best option for diabetics, if you are passionate about using it, be sure it as lean as you can get. Alternatively, we suggest you have a seafood dumpling filled with shrimp, or you can use chicken instead.
Another important distinction of this dish is that you should have steamed dumplings rather than pan-fried dumplings, often referred to as potstickers. If you are making dumplings at home and dont have a bamboo steamer, you could also boil them for the same result.
Type 1 Diabetes And Chinese Food
So i’m going for a chinese meal tonight and i’m type 1 diabetic. It’s a buffet so you can choose what you want. My favourite though is either sweet and sour chicken or sweet chilli beef . Is it still okay to eat these as long as i bolus 20 minutes before hand for it and stick to the right amount. Then afterwards, if i eat too much or have dessert, i can bolus some more right? I’ve been told that type 1’s can eat what they want as long as they bolus, is this true? I hope so!! Chinese food for me is very difficult, it is loaded with carbs. “for me” I usually take a little more insulin to cover, but that is me, you might not need it. I don’t believe that any diabetic T1 or T2 should eat whatever they want, you still need to cut back to maintain. For me, even if 2-hours post meal my BG is good, later in the day, or the next day I will have higher than normal numbers until that food has left my system. But like I said, every diabetic is different, you have to experiment to see what is right for you.Continue reading > >

Can Diabetics Eat Chinese Food
Chinese cuisine is one of the most famous in the world that captivates with its exoticism and there is almost no place in the country where there is not at least one restaurant that offers Chinese food. This cuisine is known for the use of white rice in combination with various other ingredients and sauces that make this food very specific. So can diabetics eat chinese food?
Sometimes all of a sudden we have a desire to eat a certain food, we go, and we buy that food. But the situation is a little different when it comes to diabetics. They must manage their food according to their diet and the allowed calories and nutritional values that should be taken during the day to avoid a sudden rise in blood sugar. So, it is logical to ask the question can diabetics eat Chinese food? Keep reading this text and you will finally solve your dilemma.
What Chinese Food Is Low In Sugar And Diabetic Friendly
As we said, one-half of Chinese cuisine has a bad effect on the health of the diabetic, and the other half can be consumed, so the question arises what Chinese food is low in sugar and diabetics can eat? At the top of this list are steamed dumplings made from meat and vegetables, most commonly pork and cabbage. In second place is the hot and sour soup made with bamboo shoots, eggs, and ginger in chicken broth, vinegar, and spices. This is followed by a dish called moo goo gai pan which is actually a stir-fry dish made from chicken and vegetables such as mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, and water chestnuts. Also, a great idea for Chinese food is baked salmon which has a high level of protein, omega 3, and no carbohydrates at all. The average portion of salmon contains 156 calories, 21 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fat.

Worst: Sweet And Sour Pork
Theres a reason the word sweet is in the name of this dish. It typically serves up 16 teaspoons of sugar, about the same amount in 3 chocolate bars. If that isnt bad enough, the syrupy sauce coats chunks of deep-fried pork. Even if you split this entree with someone, youre still likely to get more than 800 calories and 48 grams of fat.

Therapeutic Effects Of Coloring Pages
There has been a large increase in coloring books specifically for adults in the last 6 or 7 years. Part of this increase has been that once it was started, and adults started doing it, researchers were keen to understand whether it had any therapeutic benefits. People who are suffering from depression, anxiety and even Post Traumatic Stress Disorder , Autism Spectrum Disorder and schizophrenia have all reported that coloring in calms them and helps them return from a heightened, emotional state to a more centred state of mind. Scientists speculate that the discipline of being guided by the lines helps to create order in disordered minds.
There have been many studies in recent years that demonstrate many good benefits that coloring in can have not just for children but for adults as well. Developing skills with colouring in can be developed even with people who may not have very artistic talents. It builds their confidence and can support further artistic skill building.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
It’s time to upgrade your cooking oil. Extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats, which studies show can actually help lower levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. This is particularly important since diabetics have a higher risk of experiencing a heart attack or stroke. And get this: Snyder says losing just 7 percent of your body weight can result in significant health benefits for diabetics. Luckily for you, EVOO is rich in oleic acid, which a Journal of Lipid Research study found helps reduce lipogenesis, or fat formation.
If Youre Going Out For: Chinese
If youre eating Chinese food, chances are theres going to be rice on your plate. And if that rice is white, be prepared for a major blood sugar spike. White rice is so troublesome that one study found that for each serving a person ate per day, their risk of developing type 2 diabetes jumped by 11%.
Since Chinese food just isnt, well, Chinese food without rice, go with a half-cup of the brown variety. Its a good source of magnesium, a mineral that helps your body use insulin more efficiently. As for the rest of your plate, Weisenberger recommends starting your meal with either hot and sour soup or steamed dumplings, and following it with a main dish of moo goo gai pan or steamed fish and veggies.

Eggs & Cheese Protein Box
Skip the sugary Frappuccino and power up with a protein box at Starbucks. While youre perusing the menu in line, look down at the refrigerated section, rather than straight ahead at the bakery case. A protein box can be breakfast or lunch on-the-go and fills you up with hard-boiled eggs, white cheddar cheese, sliced apples, grapes, multigrain bread and honey peanut butter. The full meal has about 470 calories and 23 grams of protein.

Health Effects Of Monosodium Glutamate
Monosodium glutamate is commonly used in every Chinese food used as a flavor enhancer. They are used in many canned soups, vegetables, and meats. FDA Food and Drug Administrator has considered MSG safe, but its still controversial to use.
FDA has made it compulsory to add NSG on the label if its used, so make sure you always read the labels before buying any food item. The reactions of the MSG is known as SG complex which includes
- Facial pressure/ tightness
- Rapid heart rate
Researchers have found that there is no way to get rid of these reactions, so the only way is to avoid Chinese food and the food items which contain MSG. Only a small number of people who experience these effects for the short term rest of the people feel it more time.
The effects of the MSG reactions are mild and cause these severe harmful effects on the body. Many people have experienced mild chest pain radiating down to arms and back after consuming Chinese food and have experienced heart palpitations.
Heart palpitations mean the heart rate increases. It occurs for only a short period or may last for only a few seconds. Many people ignore this but avoid eating Chinese food as these have many harmful effects in the longer term.
Make sure that you read out the labels carefully and check whether it contains MSG or not. Rather than Chinese food, many food items contain MSG, for example, canned food items.
Fact MSG comes with varieties of names.
